What Are The Reasons For Asphalt Pavement Sealcoating?
New asphalt pavement has a deep black color, but the oxidation process begins immediately causing the pavement to develop a gray color over time. As the oxidation eats deeper into the pavement, the smaller aggregate material (sand and gravel) is released exposing the larger gravel and the pavement becomes rough and deteriorates the asphalt. Quality sealcoating protects the asphalt material and stops the oxidation process.
Asphalt is the final product in the petroleum distillation process and all petroleum products will actually dissolve the asphalt material. Petroleum products (gasoline, motor oil, diesel fuel, transmission fluid, etc.) dripping from vehicles cause serious damage to asphalt pavement by dissolving the asphalt binder. The product used in the sealcoating process, coal tar, is not petroleum based and actually resists petroleum products, thus protecting the asphalt pavement.
High quality asphalt sealcoating products restore the deep black color to asphalt pavement and gives it a like new attractive appearance.
