Why Seal Asphalt Pavement Cracks?

Cracks in asphalt pavement allow water to penetrate the pavement base and sub-base materials causing them to lose their structural integrity. As the structural capacity decreases, wheel loads cause excessive deflection of the pavement and cracking much like the pattern on an alligator's back. This cracking effect will continue to grow if not repaired and eventually cracked pieces of asphalt will become dislodged and pot holes will develop and continue to increase with size destroying the asphalt surface.

When sealing asphalt pavement cracks it is suggested that a hot pour crack sealant be used rather than a cold pour crack sealant. Hot pour crack sealant is higher in quality and lasts much longer than cold pour materials.

a) Propane fired compressed air cleans and dries cracks

b) Hot pour crack sealant seals cracks
